The first gynaecologist I ever saw practically laughed at me when I described my symptoms

At the age of 27, Lauren, remembers experiencing debilitating symptoms, after she stopped her BC. Prior to that she was on continuous birth control from the age of 16.

A disease that has so many colours and shapes, and symptoms that are most of the time diagnosed as IBS, Lauren reckons her younger self symptoms that were put down to IBS were actually endometriosis. One good thing in Lauren’s experience is that her family and friends took her  concerns seriously and hoped she would receive the treatment I needed.

I am one of the lucky people who found Dr Kyriakopoulos first

She saw many gynaecologists and nobody would listen to her. As such, she took it upon herself  to find someone that would help her. She also wanted one correct surgery. Her search took her to Dr Kyriakopolous.

I had what felt like a never-ending list of symptoms which took me far too long to realise they were connected.

Endometriosis is a disease that can cause various symptoms and many endometriosis sufferers go through years of pain and all the rest until they connect the two together.

Lauren is one of them.  Her list of symptoms is long and covers severe rectal pain during periods, pain when opening her bowels during my period, the need to urinate frequently/urgently but not being able to urinate properly, brain fog, constant fatigue and the list can go on.

The first gynaecologist she saw practically laughed at her when she described her symptoms. She was told that period pain is normal and to take paracetamol each month.

“I have very bad experiences with doctors in the lead up to my eventual endometriosis diagnosis. The second said to just go straight back onto birth control to see if it takes the pain away. The third one I saw said my case is too complicated for her and I need to see a specialist. The urologist I went to see regarding my issues said it was highly unlikely I had endometriosis as it is so rare and in all his years, he’s never seen a patient in his clinic with it”

Two years after her surgery with Dr Kyriakopolous

Following her research Lauren found out about Dr Kyriakopolous.  Her experience was positive and the level of care was second to none. She felt supported and listened to throughout the whole process and fully kept in the loop.

Everything was explained meticulously, and I couldn’t fault him. He is a leader in the field and truly cares about improving people’s lives.

Her symptoms have reduced drastically and having surgery was the best decision she made.
