“Endometriosis caused me severe leg pain, leaving me unable to drive”

Endometriosis nerve pain is one of the most severe symptoms of endometriosis. Included by NHS UK in the top 20 most painful conditions, in many cases symptoms start from a young age, affecting life in all aspects. This is the case of Marianna, 30 year-old, from Greece, who went through 15 years of pain until she had a correct surgery.

Immediately after surgery my endometriosis leg pain was gone

She started her symptoms at the age of 15 and until she saw Dr Kyriakopoulos she went to numerous doctors. Her then doctor put her on birth control pills for 2.5 years, something that Marianna reckons it caused her more damage than good.

After this she was put on another type of medication that is marketed for endometriosis. During this time, her symptoms were still present. She was diagnosed at some point with endometriosis and she undertook two ablations surgeries in 2012 and 2018.

“ I had two surgeries but no one told me what exactly I have had or where my endometriosis was. I knew they did ablation even on my bowel”.

She does not recall having a single day without pain

Each day her pain will increase in intensity without knowing what’s wrong with her. Although her mom was concerned, they did not know where to look to find information; all they could do was to rely on doctors to find the cause of her pain, and as in many cases, Marianna was told that her pain is in her head.

“ I went to see a psychiatrist. All the doctors I saw were telling me that my pain is in my head and advised me to see a psychiatrist”.

With pain and many others symptoms Marianna found her other half and at some point she managed to get pregnant, quite easily she says. During these pregnancies her symptoms were quiet. However after her second pregnancy she developed leg pain.

“I was limping. At the beginning the pain was not too strong, but then it started to increase in intensity. I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t drive, I could not walk. Even touching it will cause me pain”.

She started searching for endometriosis and this is how she ended up seeing Dr Kyriakopoulos who sent her to see if she has endometriosis on the nerves. In October last year she had her 1st excision surgery and the benefits of it were seen immediately.

“When I woke up from surgery, my endometriosis leg pain was gone. After 15 years of living in pain, Dr Dinos saved my life. I will be forever grateful to him”.

Now Marianna has a beautiful life with her two daughters and her husband. She also told us that after surgery she lost a whopping 5kg, immediately.
