After you have got in touch with us and a date for surgery was given, all you have to do is to prepare. The first step is consultation.
Before arriving in Athens, Dr Kyriakopoulos will offer you all the information. He will also tell you how long it is recommended to stay in the country.
Consultations
Consultations with Dr Kyriakopoulos take place at our clinic called GEMIS. The clinic is a separate entity from the hospital.
MRI
Patients that require MRI will be booked in and given the information needed.
Surgery
Our surgeries are taking place at Mediterraneo Hospital in Glyfada, which is a private hospital. As part of our pre-operative planification, patients will do a series of pre-op tests, such as blood tests, x-ray. If bowel surgery is needed, then a bowel prep might be requested. To make the best of your visit, will encourage you to be an active part and ask questions.
Accommodation
Gyflada is one of the nicest areas in Athens, near the beach. Plenty of hotels and apartments can be found nearby. You can also choose to stay in other areas, without being at risk.
Transportation
Athens has good transportation methods from underground, trams, buses and taxis. Navigating them is easy as a lot of Greek people speak english. However, if you find it much easier, you can use taxis. The official taxis in Greece are yellow.
Food
As the capital of Greece, in Athens you will find places to buy food from pretty much everywhere. From small local shops to big supermarkets such as AB Vasilopoulos, you will find a variety of cooked meals or ready to cook meals. Plus fruits and vegetables.
Internet
If you are from Europe, the internet should not be too expensive or might be even included in your data package. If you are travelling from Canada or USA, and you want to buy internet, you can purchase a sim card from local kiosks, called periptero. You will find them usually on main streets or streets with more traffic and they sell snacks, newspapers and sim cards, plus other stuff.
Restaurants
Greek food is known as one of the best in the world. In Athens you will find all sorts of types of food, from fancy restaurants to local taverns. Whatever your dietary requirements, no doubt that you will find a place to eat.
